The CCP Team can help with:

Cardiac Arrest

  • Video laryngoscope for difficult airway management
  • Advanced management of refractory VF/VT rhythms
  • Calcium Chloride for patients in cardiac arrest where hyperkalaemia is the likely cause or suspected calcium channel blocker overdose
  • Post ROSC sedation for tolerance of airway devices
  • Targeted ventilation strategies for post ROSC patients
  • Use of syringe driver for post ROSC adrenaline infusions to aid circulatory support
  • Use of ultrasound for supportive decision making in PEA
  • Intra-arrest thrombolysis for specific patients where MI/PE is the likely cause
  • Ketamine infusion for post ROSC sedation
  • Management of resuscitation induced awareness during cardiac arrest

Trauma

  • Advanced analgesia in adults and children where morphine is contraindicated or ineffective
  • Emergency sedation to facilitate extrication and manage agitation in seriously injured patients
  • Procedural sedation to facilitate provision of painful procedures (e.g reduction of fracture/dislocation with vascular compromise)
  • Use of ultrasound in trauma FAST scans and in difficult IV access
  • Use of Hypertonic Saline in suspected and specific head injury patients
  • Finger thoracostomy

Cardiac

  • Clinical and/or logistical support (if required) with the management of STEMI patients requiring PPCI hovercraft transfer
  • Emergency sedation to manage synchronised DC cardioversion or external pacing

Medical

  • Advanced analgesia where morphine is contraindicated or ineffective
  • Emergency sedation for agitated patients believed to be seriously ill and requiring assessment and treatment
  • Correction of vasoplegia in patients with hypotension thought to be caused by loss of vasoconstrictor tone.

Neurology

  • Levetiracetam (Keppra) for second line management/control of convulsive status epilepticus in adults and children
  • Hypertonic Saline for hyperosmolar therapy in cases of raised intracranial pressure
